Overview

DinoAI Audit puts practical AI tools in the WordPress dashboard: content edits, SEO drafts, image alt text, and a site audit with a score and findings.

It is not a chatbot. It does not replace Yoast or Rank Math. It never writes into post content until you copy, insert, replace, or save.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.4 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later
  • A logged-in user who can manage options (for settings) or edit the post (for editor tools)
  • Your own OpenAI API key

Installation

Method 1: WordPress admin

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Search for DinoAI Audit.
  3. Install and activate.

Method 2: Upload ZIP

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Upload dinoai-audit.zip and activate.

Quick Start

  1. Activate DinoAI Audit.
  2. Open DinoAI Audit → Settings → AI Provider.
  3. Paste your OpenAI API key, choose GPT-4o mini, save, then click Test connection.
  4. Edit a post or page. Open the DinoAI Audit sidebar (sparkle icon in the top-right of the block editor).
  5. Select text, click Improve, then Replace selection after you read the result.

Admin menu

  • Site Audit — runs the WordPress-data audit and shows the score.
  • Settings — modules, AI provider, usage, about.
  • About — version, privacy, links to docs and support.

If DinoAI Audit Pro is active, License, Internal Links, and Bulk AI appear between Settings and About.

Settings

General

Each switch turns a module on or off. Settings and the AI provider stay available even if every module is off. Click Save Changes after you flip a switch.

  • AI Content (on) — Improve, rewrite, shorten, expand, or summarize selected text.
  • AI SEO (on) — Draft an SEO title, meta description, and keyword ideas.
  • AI Image Alt Text (on) — Generate accessibility-focused alt text for a selected image.
  • AI Site Audit (on) — Adds the Site Audit screen and the Run audit button.

AI Provider

DinoAI Audit talks to OpenAI with the key stored on this site. The key is never printed in frontend HTML or in public REST responses.

  • AI Provider — OpenAI is the only option in this version.
  • OpenAI API Key — Create a key at platform.openai.com/api-keys, paste it, save. After save, the field shows a mask.
  • Default AI Model — GPT-4o mini is the recommended default. Image alt text needs a vision-capable model (GPT-4o mini or GPT-4o).
  • Test connection — Save first if you just pasted a new key, then click the button.

Nothing is sent to OpenAI until a logged-in user with the right capability starts an action (including this test).

Usage

Local counts only. The plugin does not store prompts or AI responses.

  • Total requests — how many AI actions this site has run.
  • Last request — date and time of the last action, or Never.
  • Tokens in / Tokens out — token totals reported by the provider.
  • Last module / Last model / By module — which tool and model ran, plus counts split by module.

Module: AI Content

Where: Block editor → DinoAI Audit sidebar → Content. Classic editor → DinoAI Audit metabox.

Sends the selected text (or pasted text in classic) to OpenAI and returns a rewritten version. The post is not updated until you choose Copy, Insert, or Replace selection.

  • Improve — cleaner wording, same meaning.
  • Rewrite — a fresh pass, still on-topic.
  • Shorten — the paragraph is too long.
  • Expand — you need more detail.
  • Summarize — a shorter overview.

Block editor steps

  1. Select the paragraph or range you want to change.
  2. Open the DinoAI Audit sidebar.
  3. Click an action.
  4. Read the Result box.
  5. Copy to clipboard, Insert as a new paragraph, or Replace selection to swap the original text.

Replace selection needs a selection captured when you generated the result. If the selection was empty, select text first and run the action again.

Classic editor steps

  1. Paste or type text in the metabox.
  2. Click an action.
  3. Copy the result and paste it into the post yourself.

Module: AI SEO

Where: Block editor sidebar → SEO. Complements Yoast / Rank Math. It does not write into those plugins.

Builds drafts from the current post title and content.

  • Generate title — a candidate post title. Use as post title applies it to the editor title field. You still save or publish the post.
  • Generate description — a meta description draft in the Result box. Copy it into your SEO plugin.
  • Focus keywords — keyword chips you can review.
  • SEO suggestions — a short list of on-page notes.

Review every draft before you publish. These are suggestions, not a ranking promise.

Module: AI Image Alt Text

Where: Block editor sidebar → Image. Also Media Library (attachment details) via Generate alt text.

Looks at the image with a vision model and returns concise alt text. It does not stuff keywords. It does not start with “image of”.

In the block editor

  1. Select an image block.
  2. Click Generate alt text.
  3. Edit the Result if needed.
  4. Click Save alt text.
  5. Save or publish the post so the attachment change sticks.

If you see a message about vision, switch the default model to GPT-4o mini or GPT-4o and save settings.

Module: AI Site Audit

Where: DinoAI Audit → Site Audit.

Reads data already in WordPress (posts, images, settings, versions) and scores findings in SEO, Content, Accessibility, and Technical. It is a basic audit, not a full security, accessibility, SEO, or performance scan.

  1. Open Site Audit.
  2. Click Run basic audit.
  3. Read the score (0–100), category bars, and findings.
  4. Each finding has a Solution. Some list affected posts.

Run it again after you fix issues. The last result is stored on the site until the next run.

Checks included

  • SEO: homepage title length, tagline, empty titles, duplicate titles, search-engine visibility notes.
  • Content: short published posts, missing featured images, missing excerpts.
  • Accessibility: images without alt text, empty links, heading hierarchy problems in sampled content.
  • Technical: WordPress version, PHP version, HTTPS, plugin update notes, permalink structure.

Privacy

  • Content leaves the site only when you click an action or Test connection.
  • Selected text, SEO source text, or an image used for alt text is what gets sent, plus your API key.
  • The basic site audit stays on this WordPress site and does not call OpenAI.
  • Usage counts stay on this WordPress site. Full prompts and full AI responses are not stored.
  • API usage is billed to your OpenAI account.

OpenAI Terms of Use and Privacy Policy apply to data they receive.

What this plugin does not do

  • Replace post content automatically
  • Replace Yoast, Rank Math, or other SEO plugins
  • Run a full security, accessibility, SEO, or performance audit
  • Include Pro-only tools (internal links, schema, bulk AI, extra audit checks)

Troubleshooting

  • “No AI provider configured”: Settings → AI Provider. Paste a key, save, test.
  • Test connection fails: check the key, billing on the OpenAI account, and that you saved before testing.
  • Alt text fails: switch to GPT-4o mini or GPT-4o. Select an image block first.
  • “Select some text in the editor first”: highlight a paragraph, then click Improve (or another content action).
  • Sidebar missing a module: Settings → General. Turn that module on and save.
  • After a folder move, the plugin looks new: reactivate DinoAI Audit. If you use Pro, activate DinoAI Audit first, then Pro.
